Fit That Survives the Descent
Gravity punishes cramped toe boxes. Aim for a thumb’s width of space at the front to prevent painful toe-bang on steep descents. Test by lacing snugly and tapping your toes toward the front; your nails should not hit. Consider models with an anatomically shaped forefoot if you have wide feet, and remember thicker autumn socks may require half-size adjustments to keep your downhill stride pain-free.
Fit That Survives the Descent
A locked heel reduces friction and stops blisters before they start. Use the runner’s loop to cinch the collar, then adjust midfoot tension for security without numbness. If your heel still lifts, try aftermarket insoles to fine-tune volume. In wet spring or sweaty summer, a snug heel prevents slip that, combined with grit, can sandpaper skin and spoil a great day on the mountain.
